Biography notes for Gena Elise Ellingson
Gena Elise Ellingson Frost (1882-1966) was born in Spring Grove, Minnesota on March 23, 1882. She was the youngest child of Else and Elling Ellingson. She lived the first 16 years of years of her life on the family homestead. She finished seventh and eighth grade in Spring Grove, staying with her sister Turi during the winter in order that she might do so.

During her 16th year her sister Anne invited her to come to N. Dakota for the winter. This was an important year in her life. Anne stimulated her to go on to school and the following winter she took her inheritance of $300 and attended a business college in Decorah, Iowa.

Following this she spent the remaining years before her marriage in North Dakota keeping books for her brother Gust and working in the Fessenden Court House for her brother-in-law Peter Myhre [husband of her sister Anne]. It was at this time that Pastor Frost, traveling his circuit of churches, often came to Fessenden.

(Special mention should be made of her sisters Turi and Anne. Their doors were always open to Gina and her children and many close ties were built.)

On her 23rd birthday she married Pastor H.H. Frost and their married life covered a span of 23 years. Following his death she lived with her daughter Esther (who was an elementary school teacher) and was a constant blessing to her:

1920-1929, Mabel, Minnesota
1929-1931, St. Charles, Minnesota
1931-1941, Montevideo, Minnesota
1941-1966, Austin, Minnesota.”
